4 Aug 2006 – 7 Jan 2007
Tickets £6 (£4) | Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh

Harry Benson is responsible for some of the most iconic photographs of modern times. His early newspaper career started in his hometown of Glasgow in the 1950s, but soon his photographs of major figures and events on both sides of the Atlantic would feature extensively in Life magazine and Vanity Fair.

Being There is an extraordinary, behind-the-scenes view from Benson’s camera. He was there to cover major news stories - the night Robert Kennedy was shot, the day the Berlin Wall came down, Martin Luther King’s funeral - and in the right place at the right time to take award-winning photographs of screen legends, presidents and supermodels.
